Sudanese children affected by conflict – UNICEF report

Two years of relentless conflict in Sudan have led to a 1,000% increase in grave violations against children, including killings, abductions, and attacks on schools and hospitals, according to UNICEF. The organization's Executive Director, Catherine Russell, emphasized that the violence and displacement have shattered the lives of millions of children across the nation.

Previously confined to specific regions, these violations have now spread throughout the country due to the ongoing clashes between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and Sudan's army. The number of children requiring humanitarian assistance has doubled in two years, rising from 7.8 million at the beginning of 2023 to over 15 million today.

"Sudan is currently facing the world's most severe humanitarian crisis, yet it lacks the global attention it desperately needs," Russell stated. "We have the expertise and determination to scale up our support, but we require access and sustained funding."

UNICEF urges the international community to increase awareness and support to protect the rights and well-being of Sudanese children amidst this escalating crisis.
